This is Cheryl and yes I'm helping Chris with raising money to buy Christmas presents for children undergoing cancer treatments in the Brandon area! I think it is amazing what he has been doing and if you see him out and about thank him! He doesn't have any children and yet chooses to do this for other people's people. Why? Because he has seen first hand how horrible cancer is and wants to help make children smile that have to go through this horrible disease. As both a cancer patient, and as a cancer mom I've been on both sides of the fence and I can account that it is the little unexpected things that mean the most to people on treatment. For me the moment that stands out the most was when a lady baked us cookies and gave us everything to decorate them as I was too ill to bake and what mom doesn't want the memories of making cookies with their children. To me that is what this event is about, paying it forward and being able to help others that have been in our situation. I know first hand how financially difficult cancer can be and Christmas is an expensive time for any family, let alone a family with a child receiving treatment in Winnipeg as Brandon does not treatment children with cancer. I never thought cancer would happen to my child and I pray it doesn't happen to yours! Events like these let families like mine and know people still care. I'm thrilled to be here, for the support our family has received from our community and to tell everyone that my son has 12 days left of treatment and then he too can say he is a survivor. Hope to see you all the event and once again, thank you Chris for thinking of our strongest and sometimes most forgotten heroes!!
