My two year old has gotten head lice and I am just seeing what others have used in this situation or any tips you can offer for ridding our house of this infestation as I've never had lice before

Pillows, bedding, hats etc. Wash and/or dry it all check your own head and anyone else who may have been in close contact. Use either vinegar/olive oil or lice shampoo then pick out every nit. After you've gotten rid of them do another check in a week to 2 weeks and try tea tree oil shampoo to keep them away.

Wash bedding every day.  
Wash child's hair with regular shampoo mixed with tea tree oil and peppermint oil same with conditioner. Then smother hair in oil, tee tree oil and peppermint oil, wrap in Saran Wrap and a shower cap and leave over night and rinse in the morning. just continue to wash with the mixture. And checking checking checking. Keep hair pinned up in a bun or braids.

you need to go to the pharmacy and ask the pharmacist what brand of shampoo is working right now, then follow the direction including rewashing the hair at the right time  
 
google life cycle of lice and it will explain why you need to wash 7-10 days after the treatment  
 
also wash all the bedding, clothes ect and vacuum everything, check the rest of the family too to make sure no one else has it, then avoid head contact and sharing anything that touches the head  
 
its a pain but it will get rid of the lice if done properly

Is there anyone that will cut hair? Mine is too thick and long to treat it all so I would like to have roughly 6 inches of hair cut off

Treat yourself unless you got it too! I would just pull my hair back off my shoulders when dealing with your little guy. If you got it, you may need to recruit someone to help with the combing as shampooing is not enough to eradicate head lice. The shampoos don't kill the nits just live bugs. The nits will hatch in 5-7 days and you will have bugs again if you don't do the combing. Just my 2cents.

But my hair is almost to my bum in length and incredibly thick it would take way to long to comb through it without cutting some off first

get some scissors then and cut it yourself, you would be able to throw it over your shoulder if its that long and then after its treated get someone to straighten it out  
 
the nits will hatch and combing will help the spreed of the babys to others so you cant re-get them but you still need to treat a second time in case some were missed in the combing

It probably took you awhile to grow. It's a slow process but you can remove all with some help. Those pests have gone through my daughters school more than once and we all worked at getting rid of them. The girls w long hair didn't have to cut just have extra work done to them.  
 
PM me if you want and I can give tons of pointers to you and your child. Plus be willing to help you with your hair if you want. A couple of points, use the metal comb set, buy a couple of them and if you can get your hands on a Robi set even better!
