I know all care homes are different, but I can not say enough good things about the home my dad was in. The care he received was excellent, the support staff was amazing. It didn't matter what time of day or night I called they were always polite and answered my questions. If the had the least concern about dad they called me. When he passed away we couldn't of been treated with more love and compassion. While sitting with dad numerous staff stopped on their way to chat. When they called to say they thought we should come they were wonderful to us. Since it was early morning the had coffee, muffins and fruit we could help ourselves to. They gave us all the time we needed to be with dad. I couldn't of asked for a nicer place or for more caring staff.

You can still be on the PCH wait list.     These are tough decisions and every situation is different but the rules are always the same.     Good luck in the process.     "

She needs a lifter to get in/out of bed. A lifter to get in/out bath, a lifter to get into a wheel chair, she is too weak to even stand. Neither of us have a house to have those pieces of equipment in our homes. So please, tell your dad I can't take my family member home.

I just want to point out that these thread includes a lot of incorrect information. As someone who works in this field I would strongly suggest that if you have questions about the panelling process, residential charges, bed utilization, waiting times and PCH choices, marital status for residential charge setting and income (property sale proceeds) that you speak directly with the hospital contact and/or MB health. Please don't go by the information provided here as people have misconstrued a lot of it.

I certainly don't have a problem with her paying once she gets into a personal care home.She will get help with feeding, she can be taken down to events, just a few extras being in PCH were we all know you have to pay.  
 
I have a problem with her paying while being in a hospital. That is why we have Canadian Health Care. I know someone who was in the hospital a lot longer than she will be and did not pay, because of course he wasn't going to a personal care home.  
 
It is all information I did not know until it happened and just putting it out there.  

The fact the province does not have enough personal care home beds in the first place!  
Just who is responsible for those beds?  
I thought our population was getting older.  
So why aren't they getting built???

receiving medical treatment for a medical issue then because from what we found out from our experiences this winter is if you are in a hospital for respite, or awaiting PCH or your caregiver at home is ill you PAY for the bed according to your income. The only FREE bed is if a Dr put you there for medical treatment!!
