I have developed Narcolepsy from a med I am on. The Dr.is taking me off that med, I was wondering if the narcolepsy would go away after being taken off?  
 
Anyone else have narcolepsy? Experiences, tips to get through the day?

How were you diagnosed with Narcolepsy? If you do have it then sadly no there is no cure for Narcolpesy. My Fiance has it(for roughly 7 years now) and I am quite surprised to hear of another case.

Narcolepsy is not rare. Not sure why you are so surprised to hear about another case.

We have heard some of the estimates of how many people have narcolepsy but dont usually come across people that do, although thanks to aocial media we have been able to meet up and chat to some now! Like G said, ive been diagnosed for 7 years (and shown symptoms for longer) so its unexpected is all! Ive had to base so much of my life around it that it is nice to meet others and hear of their experiences as well.

Narcolepsy isn't cause by a med. If it's from a med you've been on and the doc is taking you off of it what you're experiencing is just a side effect of the med. Should go away after the doc takes you off of it.  
 
Narcolepsy is the extreme tendency to fall asleep when in a relaxed setting, without being on meds.

I had the same initial thought.  
 
I had this experience with an SSRI antidepressant. I would fall asleep unexpectedly, most notably when I was eating lunch with coworkers and dozed off mid-spoonful of pudding, or even mid-sentence.  
 
If it's caused by a medication, once you stop the medication it should improve. How long will depend on the meds half-life, as some medications will stay in your system for days or even weeks.

as we have tried about 10 different antidepressants and finally went to the MAOI Nardil, that was working wonderfully. Now I will have to wean off it, hope the narcolepsy goes away, but most of all find another antidepressant that works so good.

that is what I meant. I have the side effect of the med.

So, are you still on that antidepressant or did you change. If you changed, did it go away.  
 
My doctor has told me to have a nap after lunch for an hour, except my naps end up being three hours, then I feel "yuk" the rest of the day.  
 
Did you have some kind of sleep schedule?
