Has anyone ever had to report a family member and their significant other for abusive treatment of their grandparent. What was the process and what was the outcome. Is their employer notified?

Reporting elder abuse would be kept confidential. If you are reporting a worker for elder abuse only than would the employer be notified (as an investigation would occur).

While I don''t think this "worker" is being abusive at their healthcare job, they are certainly verbally and mentally abusive to the grandparent at home!

if you have reason to believe it is happening at the home you need to report it. If required there will be an investigation to prove elder abuse. If elder abuse is proven that person will have record when when they apply for a child/adult abuse registry check (vulnerable sector check).

There is no such thing as elder abuse in Manitoba unless the person admits to the RCMP or to Manitoba Health that they are being abused. Otherwise nobody will do anything for them. We've watched an elder abuse situation for a few years now, have tried everything and have gotten nowhere.

Thanks for the answers but this does not give me warm and fuzzy feelings, sounds like abuser will have more rights than the elderly person being abused. Hate to say it but I guess if I want it to stop quickly then I must cross a line and report it directly to their employer ( at least then the employer will do their own investigation immediately since they do work in a healthcare facility for elderly people) Thanks for all your help!

I believe it is your right and obligation to report ANY type of abuse - if you are a witness to the elder abuse, you can call the police - 911 if you need - do not take one negative poster to discourage you from stepping forward and helping protect this Elderly person.  
 
I am glad you asked this question today - many more people need to step forward and help protect those who are being abused. [be it a child, adult, elderly - I mean people report Animal abuse, why the heck would Elder Abuse not be addressed???] Hope you report this Abuser soon!

We tried to report elder abuse a couple of years ago. It involved my brother and my father. There are posters up around the hospital to report it, but no one knew who to report it too. My family all went down to the police station and made a report to a police officer. The police officer listened and said to him it sounded like he was just trying to help my father. It made no difference to him that my father was scared of him. There was nothing else to do. It finally was resolved when my father went into a nursing home and staff were watching him when my brother came up. I found out a year later that we should have gone down to the Town Centre and talked to Mental health office there.
