So my wife and I are both working at jobs that don't have benefits, so we are considering getting a blue cross plan, or something similar?.... I have no idea what's out there, I've done a bit of research, but there's a lot of information... we have 3 children and both my wife and I are under 30... I would like something with the option of braces coverage help.... anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

We have spoken to, both personally and when speaking to a broker say that buying a plan that covers orthodontics NEVER helps you. You will pay so much more for the policy to get the coverage that it will never pay off.  
 
Broker told us to get a basic Blue Cross and start a savings account instead for braces.  
 
We just cancelled our Manulife plan as we were finding we were paying more for the policy than we could claim out of it.

Just a heads up....I have Blue Cross coverage through my work and the braces coverage isn't great. My one daughters braces cost $6,356 and blue cross only covered $1,675, being their lifetime max for orthodontic care. So yes it helps, but just be aware that it will probably only pay a portion of the cost. I'm not sure if you can buy a plan that has better coverage, just keep an eye on maximum coverages when you're comparing companies.

I have checked into getting insurance many times and just end up paying for it myself. The insurance policies only cover a certain percentage of everything, that they make sure you are paying more for the policy, than what they cover. The Basic plan that covers Ambulance coverage isn't bad and an Annual Family Travel plan is well worth the money. Good luck.

Shawn sells Sunlife and that's what we use. It's easy too use and we have had a couple wonderful surprises. They covered out shots to travel out of country and my sons wisdom teeth were also all covered !!!
