Has anyone experienced the pain of dry socket after wisdom tooth extraction? How did you cope with the pain (other than taking max dose of tylenol)?

You need to get the hole packed. Your dentist can do this with a dissolving material and they'll soak it with oil of clove which is a natural pain reliever, and pack it in the hole. The pain is caused because the clot that was protecting the bone is gone so you need something in there. Don't do it yourself though

I was told I had one by my Dr (due to the pain), dentist disagreed. Dr prescribed antibiotics. Dentist told me to rinse, rinse, rinse more!!

Crunchy 1885 is right. Please call the dentist''''s office so they can pack the socket with the appropriate material. Antibotic''s wont help with anything. It wont get any better with tylenol or any other pain meds. Your dentist will get you in right away to help you get out of pain.

The clot basically dislodged and now there is nothing covering the bone .

Clove Oil

Get yourself some clove oil, they have it at 2 farm kids. Put some on a q tip and put it in the hole. Tastes terrible but it works.

Yep, I had one a few years ago. Pain was terrible. You definitely need to see the dentist for the packing - also ask him for a prescription for Celebrex. It's a prescription anti-inflammatory, and it works so much better for dry socket than any of the over the counter ones.

Might be odd, but nurse told me after getting my wisdom teeth out, to take a cold, wet, clean, face clothe and keep it in your mouth. Just bite down on it. Helped me with pain. Maybe it would help keep your pain down too.

packing was the only relief I could get. It was like night and day. I had it done everyday and it was such a relief.

I feel so badly for you. The pain is terrible.

Dentist will need to pack or stich the opening and let it fill.

Do not suck from a straw.

I had to take my wife to the emerg in the middle of the night it got so painful
