When I was 42, I had a heart attack. Now, most women don't worry about such things. "It's a man thing" is what I thought until it happened to me.  
 
Here's what I've since learned:  
 
* it's most definitely a woman thing too  
* Poor eating and lack of exercise plus family genetics contributed to my heart attack  
* the symptoms for woman can be very different  
 
My symptoms were:  
 
* chest pain similar to a chest cold  
* severe pain in my left shoulder blade  
* feeling sick to my stomach  
 
My birthday wish:  
 
That you learn from my situation and pay attention to your own health. I am down 45 lbs and exercise daily. Most importantly, I pay attention to my body. If something doesn't seem right, I get it checked.

So many times it is mentioned on the media that women's symptoms are different, but then they [i]always[/i] stop short of telling you what to look for. Consistently. Now I know.  
 
Out of curiosity, what process did you use to lose weight? How long did it take you? I know it can be different for each person. I would just like to know what you did/are doing.  
 
Congratulations on your great weight loss. That is never easy.

But somewhat different. I had no chest pain at all. An ache at the top center of my back for about an hour, then profuse sweating with nausea followed quickly by my left arm & shoulder hurting SO badly. Next came vomiting. Nothing at all like seen on TV, with people grasping their chest. I believe this is something that all women should pay attention to.

Sorry Ladies, but men don't always have the symptoms that are described on t.v. i am a male and when I had my attacks, it was nothing like we are told. I felt a bit sick, stood up and felt dizzy for a minute or so and then immediately needed to get to the washroom. Then almost collapsed and had my spouse call 911. Emts confirmed I was having an attack. The next day , while under supervision in the hospital, the nurse came in to check my heart monitor and they said I was having a second attack. This time I had no pain, did not feel sick and in fact was waiting for something for breakfast. However it was only an hour or so until the Doctor had inserted 3 stents in my chest. Five days later I was sent home  
So, as you can see not everyone has the same symptoms. Wishing everyone a long and healthy, happy life.
