Env Canada just ended the warning for Brandon with snow and wind still forecast for the afternoon

Where can I find information on what to do if a person is traveling east and due to road closure they can't go any further. My cousin is travelling from Fort Mac to Thunder Bay and is now sitting on the highway. Will the #1 stay closed until tomorrow? If so, how do we get him to safety? What happens to those not in semi's that won't have the fuel to idle thru the day and night? Help please.

Where are they stuck? Lots of towns will be setting up shelters, but you will have to dig around depending on where they are.

Maybe this will highlight what is likely to happen when hundreds of electric vehicles are stuck on highways in minus 30's and ultimately discharge their batteries trying to keep warm. Tow trucks are going to be real busy then. Roads could be blocked for hours after snow clears.

I got stuck going south on 1st street last night coming home from work, just before the bridge. Big thanks to the young man who stopped and helped me and the car stuck behind me get out. Don't know if the guy was with Highways or was dispatched by the two towtrucks or police cruiser that passed by before he arrived, but again, big thanks to him.

Anyone have an update on #1 to Winnipeg? The app hasn’t been updated since 10am and it’s melting in Winnipeg...

Traffic cameras show bare road on Highway 1 but no vehicles so presume still not open.

Yeah online cameras show bare/wet roads right now. The cameras east of portage aren't working, but I bet they're bare as well. I guess anytime now they will update maps and open roads!

The cameras east of Austin are not working, so hard to tell the conditions that way. They probably want to make sure it's fully safe and ready. They don't want to open a portion of it when there's still a backlog of stopped semi's and vehicles in Portage. I also see that there is no power in Portage.

I'm also wondering if maybe power lines might be down across or near the road, especially in the Portage area where transmission towers have crumpled. They won't let any traffic through until Hydro has that all cleaned. up.

Anyone on hwy 1 yet towards Winnipeg ? Online it shows still closed still...

Sounds like westbound *might* be open 1 lane soon, but hasn't happened yet.  
 

Highway 1 could open to one lane west soon... but @BrianPallister says there is a possibility some in the province could be without power for 4-5 days . Please check in on your neighbours and help to keep each other safe! #mbstorm

Looks like it’s opened all the way from Sask through to Winnipeg now.. though some dodgy looking sections as per http://www.manitoba511.ca  
 
A lot of roads within Brandon that I’ve seen are starting to look a lot more passable with melting and being driven on (and of course plowing if done)

Env Canada saying 10cm on Sat at Brandon which would make it 30.6cm or about one foot over the two days!
