I don't agree with the fact that a customer somehow is not entitled to the lowest price that is available during select days. Most retail stores, as a part of being a COMPETITIVE store, need and choose to do this in order to remain competitive. In fact, many stores have policies that say that if a competitor has a lower price within a specified period - say 30, 60 or 90 days - then the customer can come in for a price adjustment on the better price. In fact, many even match the price and offer an additional 10%. It's called competition, folks. Sure there is an argument on certain items like groceries, etc. but even Canadian Tire corporate policy agrees to offer the price adjustment within 90 days, EXPLICITLY because they don't want a return on "opened" merchandise. And that's fair and it a smart policy.

But here is another point. When merchants AGREE to offer credit card as a payment method (VISA, Mastercard) then they should also be held to the terms and conditions of providing that payment method. Customers often obtain these credit cards, BECAUSE THEY OFFER CONSUMER PROTECTIONS, including the ability to return items within a 60 day period, regardless of reason. So ya, companies need to be competitive, and in order to compete they need to understand that the sale is often not complete when the item goes through the till. Companies have an obligation to allow consumers to make decisions that allow them to negotiate the best market price, and often this happens after the point of sale, or to return unwanted items for other reasons.
It looks like many of the opinions here are from people who actually own businesses and feel "cheated" with customers wanting to exercise their right to the lowest market price. And while I get that, you can't always have your cake, and eat it too.
