There is usually a by-pass between the freezer and the fridge. Basically, the cold for the fridge starts a the freezer, then a "door" opens to allow the passage of cold air into the fridge when needed (called upon by the fridge thermostat). It's likely that the door has either failed or frozen shut (ice buildup in the freezer) or that the heating coil that defrosts the freezer coils has failed or is not working properly. If I were you, I would start by unplugging your fridge first and make sure any ice buildup in the freezer compartment has completely thawed. Then clean it out and make sure it's completely dry, then plug it back in and see if that works. Check to make sure that the fridge temperature dial hasn't been knocked or turned by your kids and that its calling for proper temperature. If all of that fails, then it's likely a failed defrost heating cable in the freezer compartment. Basically, every now and then this heating cable comes on/off to thaw any ice buildup in the freezer. Finally, it could also be a failed fan motor that pushes cold air from the freezer into the fridge compartment. Try youtubing your situation with your particular brand/model, and it may be a common thing with your fridge. If it is a new fridge, it's likely because all new fridges are complete garbage. They are all horrible, built to last not much more than the warranty period.
Try youtubing the following title: Refrigerator Repair (Not Cooling, Defrost System)
For whatever reason this forum won't let me post a youtube link.
