Must vent frustrations...For the first time in my life I have felt discrimination at Brandon Midwifery Services. I decided I would like a midwife to provide my care during my pregnancy and delivery. I had to answer some questions over the phone in regards to eligibility. They were as follows: Are you native, mites, Inuit or an immigrant. No...Are you single? NO...Are you under 20? NO are you low income or one welfare? NO and finally do you have a good support network in town or are you alone? Yes I have lots of family in town...So basically because I'm not native, metis, inuit , immigrant low income single under 20 with no support network I'm not qualified!
These spots are filled up first and if there are any pickings left over then and only then can I get in.
Why must it be broken down like that? It's not fair, why can't we just all be pregnant woman together why must we be labeled and treated based on who we are?
Not being racist or disrespectful but it just hurts that I don't count or fall into any of their categories. I'm a scared first time mom with lots of questions too and I feel punished for not being young single low income or in a minority. For the first time in my life as a white middle class married women I felt discrimination.
What does everyone think is this policy fair? Am I just being overly sensitive with my pregnancy hormones??
