Other Brandon high schools offer AP (advanced placement) courses which in general are more accepted by Canadian universities. These programs offered by the high school can usually tell you the applicable credit received by universities in the area. What I mean is you might take AP calculus but it counts as Math 1300 at University of Manitoba.
There is a general article about IB vs AP here.

Now for my final opinion which lots of people don't like is don't take either. AP and IB courses are more challenging and as such will reduce your child's GPA. So when universities look at a high school transcript the first thing to consider is GPA. If is low then it will be rejected. Only if the GPA is within their margins will they look at courses taken. High School should be used to attain the highest GPA possible first and foremost. If your child can maintain all a+ while taking AP/IB courses then they should be supplemented in.
Myself I took AP courses and didn't apply the credits and boosted my university GPA, however I was fortunate to achieve good grades in my AP courses and my high school GPA was still good and did not hinder my unversity applications but for many other smart people it did. But when you consider 100% on a general course vs 60 % on a ap/IB course it doesn't matter what the course name is the just see the mark.
