And I have a diffuser in my bedroom my child’s room and the living room. I don’t have them going all the time but I have had them for years. I use the one in my bedroom the most and I only use young living products. From what I have read it is the synthetic oils and not the pure oils that can be harmful for pets. I have had no troubles with my cat.

When I was researching the uses of some oils, so I could diffuse the right oils. I was hoping to relieve some sore throats over the winter, and try and make the air cleaner to breathe. When I was reading some stuff it did mention to use high quality pure oils and proper dilution of oils to diffuse. Scented candles are also mentioned as well. It never occurred to me about the risk to a cat. I’m careful about plants and cleaning products on the floor but now I wonder about the oils in the diffuser???

I also saw that Facebook post and if I remember correctly there was one specific oil mentioned that can be quite harmful to cats. I just now did a search on FB but couldn’t come up with the post again, so like others have recommended, do your research to ensure you aren’t harming your fur babies.

My sister posted this on Facebook for me and I always check facts by going to Snopes or other good sites. So caution is recommended with the use of the majority of essential oils with small pets in the house esp cats.

I''ve had cats for years, and diffused essential oils for years with zero problems. As many plants can be toxic to cats, it makes sense that some essential oils can be as well, so it pays to be careful with essential oils just as you would be with certain houseplants and cats. I think you would certainly want to avoid directly surface contact for them, as well as the chance of them being able to lick the oils from anywhere. As for diffusing, I would say just monitor them when you''re diffusing and see if they have any problems. As I mentioned above i''ve never had an issue and I use all of the essential oils mentioned in that facebook post. And as for the facebook post itself, did the woman actually confirm that the oils are what made her cat sick?

I checked out some of the ingredients of their 'pet friendly blends' that they link to & they contain some of the oils mentioned.  
 
I would go with the direct advice from a trusted vet over anything read on Facebook... remember- it's the same kind of viral BS on FB that falsely teaches us to prick people's fingers to 'save' them during a stroke.
