With the holiday right around the corner, something to consider if you're thinking of impulsively adopting a rabbit because of the season. Please do all your research before adopting any kind of pet! I'm already seeing "easter bunnies!" for sale on the classifieds here and I'd hate to see them back up there in a few months. Or, worse, running around the streets and in the parks like I've been witness to before here in the city (it's easy to tell the domestic breeds from the wild ones!).  
 
I've been a rabbit owner for 10 years now and I love her to bits. But it's not a pet I would personally recommend to give to young children. There's just as much, if not more, maintenance than a cat or dog because they have very different behaviours and requirements.

If you've done the research and have rabbit-proofed your home (trust me) and think you're ready for one? Awesome! With the right care, environment, and training they are fun companions. But please consider adopting instead of buying from a pet store.

I have no ideas how it is like to have a rabbit other than cute but good and interesting message you have here so hope people read it and reconsider a couple times before their purchase.

This was not at all what I was expecting to read when I first saw the title of this.. But your message is absolutely correct and I wholeheartedly agree.

I don't mind the jack rabbits because they can't slip under my fence but I have seen a black bunny in my yard and it better not be here when gardening season starts!

Not a pet for young children or for anybody who is not going to research their habits and requirements. They require a lot of care.

I've never even heard of buying a real bunny as an Easter present

Saw a domestic rabbit living alongside some wild hares this morning in a green space within a neighbourhood. See my profile for image.  
 
Thankfully it looks like this one has adapted and was getting along with the wild hares. Most of the time I see abandoned rabbits alone and are more approachable and easier to catch.  
 
I probably also need to point out that it is not a baby hare. They do not have the same structure, ears, or colour that this one did. They don't hop around like hares do, either. This rabbit was clearly someone's pet that was left outside and got away or was abandoned.  
 
Please keep an eye out for stray pets like this! People will report stray cats and dogs they find quickly, but rabbits and other small animals seem to fall under the radar too often.

Someone reported that a bunny was found and reported it..I believe it was on BALA..

Just to let u know there was another post on BALA about a rabbit that was found..so you can see that these little guys are not under the radar...
