Good morning, I have 2 guinea pigs and I am wondering what shreds everyone is using. I am using the Aspen because it says those are the only kind to safely use (cedar or pine can cause urinary problems) for them. They are expensive and I have noticed that pet stores do not use them for their guinea's. So, please tell me what you use. Also I have this cage for them and I am wondering I tidy them up daily (take the pee spots out)and full clean them out every two weeks. How often are you tiding them up? and cleaning them fully out?

fleece. its way cheaper but u have to scoop their poops out every day. and wash the fleece every few days. but its healthier for them. ill get a bag of shavings if i have to go away for a few days if nobody around to scoop the poop.  
 
you can buy fleece mats on ebay, or you can make your own. theres lots of ideas on the internet.  
 
i went the cheapest route and all i do is line the cage with an old towel with a peice of fleece on top. cost is 0 except washing of their fleece.

okay, I am going to look into this thank you for the suggestion, anything to keep shreds off my floor would be great. Drives me crazy sweeping them all the time. Only one question, don't the pigs kinda get more dirty that way? I have one pig who pees in his house all the time

They dont get dirty. All the pee almost instantly wics through the fleece and they stay dry.  
 
The key make sure u have an absorbing layer under the fleece. And the fleece has to be washed a few times first for it to start working .

We use BOXO brand bedding. It's more like cardboard type material.
