The prices seem to be getting a lot higher. Maybe the more we talk about the price of dogs the more people are asking or sadly paying for the dog. $1900 for a cross dog really. I have had a dog all my life and the best are the cross dogs or mutts but not at that price wow. Come on people really. You don't get any papers or any thing guess i won't be using ebrandon to buy a next dog if i need one.

BUYER BEWARE

For a puppy to be sold as a purebred, it must be eligible to be registered with the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC). This is the law in Canada.

If a breeder claims that the puppies they are selling are purebred, you are legally entitled to a CKC Registration Certificate at NO EXTRA COST. The sale of purebred dogs is governed by the federal Animal Pedigree Act (APA).

Selling a puppy without papers automatically makes it non-purebred.

If a certificate of registration is NOT provided by the seller within six months of the date of sale, the buyer can lay an Information Charge against the seller for violation of the Animal Pedigree Act.

Article 64. (h) of the APA states: "No person shall offer to sell, contract to sell or sell, as a purebred of a breed, any animal that is not registered or eligible to be registered as a purebred by the association authorized to register animals of that breed."

The penalty for violation of the Animal Pedigree Act is a fine of up to $50,000.00.

If your puppy is not registered, it cannot compete in any purebred competitions (obedience, draft work, showing, etc,). Any offspring from a non-registered dog are not considered purebred.

If the parents are purebred, there is no excuse for selling unregistered puppies. Registering a litter costs the breeder approximately $32 dollars a puppy. If puppies are being sold unregistered, ask to see the parents registration certificates and make sure the owner has the breeding rights for the parents.

A Reliable and Reputable Breeder will NOT sell unregistered puppies. Choose your breeder carefully.

I know which post your talking about and I felt the exact same way, I would totally buy a puppy for 300.. anything more than 500 I won't even consider it.

for a Husky pup, Just read the ad. The people have eight pups to sell. No papers. Dad of the pups is a mix between Husky and Malamute, Mom is Siberian Husky. That's a lot of cash. But people are crazy about Huskys and no doubt will pay that amount.

I couldn’t agree with you more. Asking upwards of $2500 right now for cross mix puppies - is nothing short of ridiculous. I wish Adam would delete the option. It literally breeds greed and is so terrible for the dogs. (Pun intended) At the very least- do NOT support these people

I don't get it. If you don't like the price of the puppy don't buy it. It's pretty simple. I don't like the price Murray's charges for a new truck but I don't come on here and batoochie about it. There is a kid selling a PS5 for $1500 right now how come there is no outrage on that?

If you don't like the price make an offer or better yet go and adopt a dog.

Hi all,

Much respect for the huge hearts out there that are looking out for animals.

I can personally relate to the category, with our Sheltie having been bought from a great local breeder who regularly advertises. We paid a bit of a premium and have been okay with that. We took a bit of a risk in not knowing how my allergies would react and breeder was great in saying to bring him back if it didnt work out (thankfully it did!). We picked him knowing the personality that the breed is known for and the ideal fit for our home. He’s an awesome part of our family, tons of fun every day and a great companion who wouldn’t trade for anything. I wouldn’t feel right denying others the same opportunity if that’s their choice and I won’t interject on pricing any more than I do anywhere else in the classifieds. Tons of respect at the same time for those who connect with rescues and find their ideal companion through great organizations like the Brandon Humane Society, FFFF and Strays that Can’t Pay.
As far as ads, there’s zero tolerance for puppy mills and for situations where a dog is being advertised as purebred but isn’t registered. I get regular reports helping me identify these situations that I’m very thankful for and always very much appreciate others willing to take the step of doing the same. You can do this through the "report" link on any ad, or feel free to send me a note through the "contact" link on any page on the site.

The litter that our dog came from were advertised at $650. I paid $450 including shots, vet checks and I saw parents.
Don’t forget that everything is demand driven so it is more useful to address the demand rather than the supply.

I agree, these prices are NOT unique to Ebrandon. Look on other sources. Try Kijiji its the same. Then look across Canada, it gets higher. Look at websites of individual breeders, also the same.

Currently its supply and demand.

My friend from BC is looking at dogs in Manitoba as they are far cheaper here than in BC. She knows people who are paying to ship dogs to other provinces due to the high cost everywhere.

At least with the Adoption of any animal there is a application, they will run a background check to make sure the animal will be going to a safe home. Also it will also have it shots too. And with most shelters come with a certificate to get your pet spayed or nurtured at it's time if it has not bee done already.

The pets are played with the people there. unfortunate it may not be in a "Home environment" unless they have been fostered.( use to volunteer at a shelter and foster pets. So the do get socializing.

And if I could have t my way I would of taken them all home with me..

I thought the same thing when I looked at the price of a Tesla. WOW!! But guess what I didn't buy it. You can literally scroll through the classifieds and laugh your arse off at some of the ridiculousness. Kind of like when people cry and whine about the price of housing in Brandon. It is what it is. If you don't like it don't buy it and if everyone did that guess what the prices would come down (with the exception of housing I am afraid) This is nothing new either people have been charging ridiculous prices for pets for years but guess what people keep buying. Even Adam admitted to overpaying for a dog.

To start I have never bred dogs registered or not, but I have had dogs all my life.

Purebred breeders always think they are high and mighty and that those are the only dogs that should exist, well you can keep your purebreds with predetermined inbred health conditions, you sound like a bunch of white supremasists.

As far as pricing goes like others have said it’s supply and demand. We got lucky and found an awesome schitzu Pom cross back in the summer here for $800 and I couldn’t pay fast enough, absolutely healthy and awesome pup. We got lucky with price but I would have gladly paid up to $1500.

Dogs should be expensive, makes the buyer think twice about the commitment and ability to look after the dog in the long run.

Our last dog we had to put down about 4 years ago after almost $5000 in vet bills trying to save him, and I would have spent much more if there had been any possibility he would survive.

So quit whining about what people charge, you don’t like the price don’t buy, if you have patience and take your time you will find that perfect dog at the perfect price that fits in with your family.

And as far as purebred breeders go, please read the first paragraph again, your purebreds aren’t always as great as you make them out to be, and the biggest concern you have is that other people are getting as much, or more, than your dog with a piece of useless paper.

That being said I don’t condone outright puppy mills but if a responsible owner has an occasional litter and sells their dogs good for them.

I think the same way, can't afford a Lexus so I won't go shop for one. Totally not the point big mack.
People are taking two mixed breed dogs (mutts) and getting multiple pups. Then they make up some fancy name for the pups. Designer dogs, *snort*. It's a mutt, plain and simple!
I have no problem with Adan or any one else paying lots of cash for the type of dog they want. Adam bought a Sheltie and they don't come cheap.
Most breeders breed their dogs precisely in order to get the best possible dog from their line.
Are these sellers guaranteeing their 2 thousand dollar mutts? I highly doubt it.
If you do buy from a reputable breeder and there is a problem with the dog you at least are entitled to a replacement, it happened to a family member so that's how I know.

Rescue vs registered

I have had two rescue dogs. The first was abused. She would shy whenever there was a loud noise or someone moved quickly. That fear never really went away, if you moved your hand quickly she still ducked. The second was allowed to run wild. She was an escape artist. One second with the gate open and she was gone and was never trained out of it. She was large enough to eat off of the kitchen counter and open garbage cans(we managed to train this behavior). Some rescues are wonderful dogs that have been socialized but the owners can't keep them for whatever reason but some have been discarded because of lack of training. Do you have the patience to deal with the problems?

I know a local breeder very well. The cost of xrays, genetic testing, shots, micro-chipping , time spent making sure the breeding stock is sound and only desirable stock is used for breeding costs time and money. You will get lifetime support, health guarantees, and a very well socialized, healthy happy puppy if you research and choose a reputable breeder.

I disagree with you about shelters. They don’t even do a background check if they don’t like something that was posted on your application. We had sent in an application- dog’s des:cription was exactly what we were looking for and we would have been a great fit. Instead we told no because of what they thought. They didn’t even call references or to see if the dog would have issues with what they thought would be an issue. No home visit, no nothing. Ended up family they did choose gave dog back for a reason that would not have been an issue here. So....we bought our 2 dogs. They are vetted, loved, cared for, attend the groomer often and go to doggy daycare for interaction. Live the high life around here!

Did we pay - yep. $50 for one and $800 for the second as she was purebred. I had a budget and luckily I found one in my price range.

If people are willing to pay then people will continue to charge that. It is what it is. BUT not everyone- even the best families are turned away from rescues.
