It's so sad that people will not not get a rescue critter over the high end priced crazy dogs / cats , rescues can be just as awesome . There are just so many throw away critters . Heartbreaking .High end breeders it's all about the money if folks stopped paying high prices there would be less throw away critters.

came from the pound. She was a Husky mix who liked to run, we never gave her that chance, lol No leaving outside overnight for that girl.  
She's the only dog we ever paid for too.  
Yes people pay enormous amounts for dogs that are mutts.

Are all rescues, but I get mine as drop offs or strays that neighbors bring over, some came from the pound.  
 
The dogs have all been bought from breeders though not for today's ridiculous high prices. The sad thing is, while some rescues can be good, not all are. My dogs stay home, not on the road-they are outside when I am, inside when I am, but I do live in the country and do not have a fenced yard-and do not I tend to get one. Some of the rescues will not let a dog go to country people and certainly not to an unfenced yard...even though my dogs are not the ones you will see roaming around and getting run over the rescues prefer their dogs get tossed out in a fenced yard and forgotten rather than go to a home like mine. And that's okay. Additionally, often the rescues have no idea what breeding their dogs have-I have known them to claim a drop ear dog is shepherd husky cross, and I've never known either breed to be drop eared. In any case i prefer a specific breed for specific reasons. There are many others like me, and we do not subscribe to the silly adopt don't shop creed.

All breeders and owners bear the same responsibilities. If there was more spaying n neutering going on, there would be less rescue dogs/cats up for adoption. There would also be less overall litters for sale or giveaway.  
 
It’s easy to pick on the so called high priced breeders. They are an easy target.  
 
Where are all these rescue dogs coming from? Seems to me the number of available rescue dogs for adoption has increased a lot in the last 5-10 years. That tells me there should be more spaying n neutering going on amongst those breeders. Somebody’s having these litters that end up in rescue……

A reputable breeder takes the time to ensure the health of their line. Many of them show their dogs in show competitions. And you will pay more for a dog from a good breeder as that breeder will take the dog back at any point in its life and rehome if you are not able to take care of it. Unfortunately there are bad breeders out there who are not as careful about the health of their dogs. Over breeding and poor genetics has increased cancers and heart problems in some breeds.  
 
Then there are backyard breeders who are perpetuating the dog population. While they may think they are doing a good thing by breeding their dogs as good family dogs they are adding to the over population problem.  
Don’t get me started on puppy mills. Those people should be banned from ever touching an animal.  
 
The problem is a complex one. And it is being caused by irresponsible people not getting their pet fixed.  
 
But don’t expect everyone to take in a rescue. While admirable it is a personal preference. Some people prefer to research the breeds and get a puppy from a reputable breeder. It’s not their fault that other people have created this overpopulation problem.

It depends on what you are comparing your dog too. I have a number of friends who have a mixed breed with numerous health issues. So don’t say they are healthier. Likely if you go to a reputable breeder the health will be better than a mixed dog or a dog from a bad breeder.
