Hi,  
 
I have a recently diagnosed diabetic cat that I just can't afford his treatment. Because I can't give him everything he needs (food, meds, dental work) I can't have him suffering and my only option is to put my boy down. I was curious if there was someone out there who wants to take him on. I don't want to feel like I'm passing the burden. I'm just having the most difficult time with this decision because he's an amazing boy, he loves his snuggles and is the most affectionate cat.  
 
Please no rude comments as this is breaking my heart.

We think someone dropped him off at our property and we took him in not knowing he was diabetic. By the time we took him to the vet he was quite far gone.  
At the time, the Brandon Hills Vet Clinic where Dr. Thrush is suggested we turn him over to one of several people they had who took in diabetic cats. You might give them a call to see if they still offer that service. Our boy didn't make it.

I believe most of our rescues are full right now but many of them will Help by making a post for you. I know Virden pet network for sure would. Neepawa vet clinic is where we vet and I know sometimes they will take cats as rescues. If he has good odds which it sounds like he does it would be worth a shot. Also the more places he is posted and the more exposure he gets will also help find him someone to care for him. Many people in brandon are animal lovers and want to help. I wish I could afford to help but I have too many cats of my own with lots of medical needs unfortunately. If I think of other places I'll come back and post again. And if I see a post for you with the rescue groups I'll share it. You are trying to help him instead of putting him to sleep. Please don't feel like you're putting a burden on someone else because that isn't what you are doing at all.

I have to cats with diabetes just let you know that your baby does not have to have the food that the vet sells our boys are eating friskies as it was one of the foods that is recommended and there are a few others . Their teeth are fine so I think that is just a moneymaker for vet. So the only thing I get from the vet is their medication and needles I by a box that is about fifty dollars plus about the same for meds. One of my boys has been on it for seven years and the other six years and he now also has a thyroid condition and they want his teeth done not going to happen and instead of the meds for thyroid we have gone and get his all natural meds from amazon and he is doing great so I think you might fined all sorts of information on the internet.please check it out before you give your baby up by the way my boys are 14 years old. I hope this helps you.

On what kind of insulin they put him on, you could try a regular pharmacy. You can buy insulin syringes and the insulin itself without a prescription. Sometimes that can be cheaper than going through the vet clinic.
