I don’t think I am the only person who has noticed this, there are too many drivers driving with their high beams on in the city, as well, when they are driving (literally) on your bumper! If they have never experienced this themselves, they need to realize how hard it is to see anything when they do that! Please check that your lights are on dim! If someone flashes you, maybe it’s time to get your lights realigned.

Also those that drive with no lights...or just Daytime Running Lights are equally as annoying. I had 2 of these just last night on my way home from work. I looked back to see that they had no tail lights on which could cause a problem too

A big problem for me is the higher riding vehicles whose owners think the new “brighter” headlights are a good thing. Yes, they can see much further BUT they completely blind the oncoming driver. Accidents waiting to happen!

Oh how I dislike those LED headlights! They are blinding whether they are behind you or coming at you. I think the auto industry has to look at a different option for vehicles.

It doesn't help that the light aim doesn't get checked like it supposed to by any safety inspection or get enforced by check stops

fog lights are as big a problem as bright, or mis- aligned head lamps. Lots of vehicles that are newer than 2021, have a bank of lights on the front. Fog lights leading the way!

Every manufacturer has switch to led for the light output, long life span and low electric load as we transition to electric vehicles. Lower vehicles are definitely effected the most. Tip your inside mirror so it deflects the light away from your eyes. They have 2 positions just for this reason. You can also get yellow driving glasses which help reduce glare but also affect how far you can see ahead. I’ve found driving with the rear interior light on and the dash lights low help a lot when driving at night for me.

I travel a half hour to and from work each day, in winter that’s both ways in the dark. It’s unbelievable how how hard it is to see the road never mind wildlife when oncoming traffic doesn’t take care to have proper headlights. I agree, fog lights when there is no fog??! No concern for others safety at all, just making themselves feel better by having just a fraction brighter view for themselves. I hit a deer two years ago because the person coming towards me wouldn’t dim their lights and I was totally blind until I saw flicker and slammed on my brakes. Over 6000.00 damage and I hardly hit it, would have been a neat miss only, if that person had dimmed their lights and I could have seen that side of the road….please people…get your lights aimed properly and pay attention and dim your lights, and if you are following someone…dim your lights!!! Very inconsiderate to follow closely behind someone with your bright lights on!

Headlight set is fixed and angle of range is affected by changes in slope, weight, height, etc. The manufacturers have to implement the technology to adjust head lights by compensating for changes in driving conditions or in the operation of the vehicle.

I understand the frustration being written here. Bright lights are a problem but all drivers need to understand, when I am driving toward you, my lights are on dim. I know the rules and I understand them. It is the LED's that are bright but the only option I have is to shut my lights off completely.  
 
I don't mind when people flash from the safe distance. What I find completely annoying are those who flash me just as we meet. You are as dangerous as those who do not dim their lights.  
 
Its new vehicles and it means learning how to adjust. These lights are here to stay.

We need more police dedicated to traffic in the entirety of Westman. The things that are considered normal driving practices around here are deplorable.

These officers need to be paid around $70k-$80k .  
Are you going to pay their wages.  
So many people want all these better services but they don't want their taxes going up. Who is going to pay them.

Fines are given out for having too dark of tint on your windows, because of “safety” reasons. Why is running blinding LED lights not treated the same way? LED lights are a safety concern!

Does the city even do these anymore? No traffic department = free for all.

Our vehicle is a 2012 with the yellow mellow halogen lights which I even spent $80 recently for new bulbs. But when a 2023 vehicle goes by with them LED lights, wow, does that light up the highway, almost makes me want to check if my headlights are even on! But, when right behind on oncoming, can sometimes be quite bright, especially if the high beams are on.

With reasonable enforcement, wages can be generated for officers. Our tax dollars are mismanaged so often I bet there is enough waste to cover some expenses as well.

This discussion certainly took a turn!  
 
I agree that we are far too lazy when it comes to how we operate our vehicles. I see a lot of people driving at night with no lights, or with their high beams on. If people took the time to understand how their vehicle works, the roads would be far safer.  
 
This has nothing to do with government, we just need to do better as individuals before turning the key.  
 
I still remember adds on TV telling people to turn on their lights for safety. Now we are so distracted by so many things, that even the automatic settings in our vehicles aren't enough.  
 
I have been in a ride-along when the police officer I was riding with stopped about 3 people to tell them to turn on their lights. I've done it myself a couple of times. It's not a criminal matter, but rather a mindfulness matter. People just need to be more aware of their surroundings.

Yes this is a definite! People now are far too busy rushing here and there and not paying attention to what is going on around them. Distracted diving, not just cell phones but radio, passengers, talking, etc. unfortunately, there are also drivers who don’t seem to remember their driver training and/or common curiosity. I am sure if the position was reversed the road rage would ensue!

The driver that followed me to Carberry this morning provided me with ample light that I could spot a deer coming a mile away - lol! It was headlight extrordinare!

but if properly aimed not hard to meet. If you are continuously getting flashed and your lights are on dim then there is likely a problem with your vehicle which you need to fix.  
Something that will help if having headlights aimed is to load the vehicle as it is normally loaded. Those 2 bags of sand in the trunk can make a bight difference to the quality of the aim.  
Also make sure your fog lights are aimed properly or shut them off. Many times I have met vehicles and it is the fog lights that are the issue, not the headlights. Fog lights may be the reason you are getting flashed.  
 
Then there is aftermarket led lights. Some are good, but my opinion is more are bad than good.. Yes they are bright, but many have poor light beam control. The poor quality lights do not have the sharp horizontal cut off that a quality light has and basically just shoot light out with no control or beam formation. I have tryed to install some of these lights for friends and ended up refusing to do the job.  
Just because the lights have a DOT or SAE logo on the the light does not mean they are a quality light or even that they are DOT/ SAE approved. I believe there are some fakes out there.  
 
So please if you are getting continuously flashed by oncoming traffic try shutting off the fog lights and if it is still a problem get you headlights aimed.
