emergency vet services

i am disappointed with the few choices brandon has for emergency vet care.
at 6pm tonight we went out to the barn to do chores and found our miniture horse (8 months old) down. he was whinying, and we hollerd come on baily get up, but soon realized he couldnt. my husband scooped him up in his arms (he is the size of a heavy large dog) and brought him into the house where after a few short minutes we realized we were in trouble. i called the vet emergency line and left a message as it instructs.
we loaded the horse wrapped in blankets into the van and raced the 25 km to brandon, to get to the vet, with still no call back. we tried and left several messages, including calling another vet in town where the voice mail said, for dec 6 i am away for 4 days, sorry i cant help you. we raced up the north hill to the only other vet that i know of, where baily's heart stopped beating as we pulled into the parking lot.
we cried, we drove home and explained to our kids 10 and 11 that baily is now with kids in heaven who also need a pet.
i was so mad, i came home to write a blog on how helpless i felt, that nobody responded or called back, and just now, at 8:22 the vet calls to say, where are you....i was just out side and left the phone in the house.
i know these vets have lives besides work, but when they are on call for emergencies for god, sake put it on your hip.
anyways, i just wanted to vent....i am sure it was all just coincidentaly circumstances, but i am frustrated none the less. baily was in bad shape and may have died anyways, but, i wish it didnt have to be in my arms feeling like we didnt do all we could.
