Need a friend for our Jack Russel Terrier

I am looking for advise on a friend for our Jack Russel Terrier.
We currently have two dogs and our JRT is about to become very lonely as our 2nd dog has to be put down because of old age.
Our JRT is about 8-9 years old (not 100% sure on age, we adopted her)
I was wondering if anybody could offer advice on who would make a good new friend for our JRT.
I have been thinking about maybe a Miniature Schnauzer or Miniature Dachshun.
We would prefer that the new dog be similar in size and weight, nothing big, friendly and good around children.
Any information and advise is greatly appreciated.
