Need some advice for my Lily, with hip dysplasia

Hi guys! Okay, many of you on here who also frequent the dog park on Victoria know my two dogs, McDuff (Chow/Border Terrier mix) and Lily (White Shepherd/Husky mix). You may also know that Lily has hip dysplasia. She has had one hip fixed already and will be getting her other one fixed hopefully sometime this month (she's going in for her consultation appointment at one of the vet clinics on Thursday).
It is a pretty serious operation and requires a six-week healing period where Lily is kennelled and does not move much. I am worried because she is such an active (on the verge of hyper) dog and this will be hard for her. Also, I was wanting some advice.
We live in a basement apartment. This means that while Lily is healing, she'd have to climb the stairs to do her business outside. We could always lay newspaper down at the outdoor landing in front of our door, but it's a small space and I'm not sure if the landlords would appreciate that.
Do you think we should go with the up/down stairs method, while giving her lots of support while walking, or do you think it would be best to kennel her somewhere for the duration of her healing period where she wouldn't have to climb stairs and where we'd visit her lots?
Any input is much appreciated! I am worried about my girl
