dog shock collars

just wondering if anyone has ever used a dog shock collar with remote on their dogs for training. I have a dog that likes to chase things and want to break her of this habit. I would really like opinions on how these things work and if it would be worth the money to buy one. This may be my last chance to keep my dog so I am willing to try this if it works, if not who knows what will happen to her.
