Dog Shedding
10/25/2010 at 11:37 AM
We have two dogs, an American Bulldog and a Rottweiler and one DSH cat. As expected..we have a lot of hair shedding in our house! However, 99% of it is coming from our Rottweiler puppy (who will be a year next month). I have never owned this type of breed before so I wasn't aware that they shed this much..or do they? Is it just my dog that is shedding so much? Our home has no carpet (thank god!) and I sweep the floor usually twice a day and can literly sweep up a small cat worth of hair, which is primarily from the Rottweiler (as it is black and longer, my other dog's hair is white and very short).
I have recently started brushing her with a brush that looks like a little rake. I grab a lot of hair with it, but am still having around the same amount of hair on the floors. I am just wondering if I should be doing something else..changing their food to something better? They are currently on a Chicken and Barley type of food (which I pay a pretty penny for, so I am definatly up for suggestions and will pay a good price for food for them). I just recently found out from a friend who is a vet tech that both Chicken and Barley are common for food allergies for animals, and my dogs do scratch. However, I wouldn't say excessively..
Anyways, I am rambling..anyone have any tricks to get rid of so much hair? I know that hair is inevitable when owning pets, don't get me wrong..I am just a little concerned at the amount that she is shedding. I am suprised that she isn't bald and I won't have to make her a sweater for the winter! Lol!
Any help would be great, thanks!
