Vets Too HIgh Priced?
10/29/2010 at 5:37 PM
There have been a couple of threads on lately where this subject has come up...this is just my two cents on the subject.
I believe most of the veterinary clinics in the Westman area are fairly close in the fees that they charge for the normal requirements of most pets, ie: vaccinations, spays, neuters, etc. They may vary slightly, from clinic to clinic, but overall are very reasonable with their fees.
Please consider that, all veterinarians have 6-7 years university, many still have student loans(or did have), they have overhead just like any other business, taxes, staff, (many of whom also have degrees and student loans), and expect to be paid accordingly for their skills!
I wonder if any of you who are complaining have thought about the cost of x-ray equipment, blood analysis equipment, anesthesia machines, etc, some of which is equal to or better than what the local hosiptals have access to. The reality of life is that although I would like to own a Mercedes and eat caviar, I can't afford to. It has been said before on this forum that pets are a luxury not a necessity, if you can't afford the expenses that may arise fom owning one, then you simply must wait until you can. To rail at the people that provide the health and emergency care for pets for the fees that they charge is naive and unjustified. Please call around to some of the larger cities like Calgary or Vancouver and inquire about prices for Veterinary services, then please post on here and tell me our local vets aren't reasonable!
P.S. I am going to call around to some foreign car dealers as well as the supermarkets and tell them they are overpriced and maybe someone can step in and get the prices lowered for me!
