I've got a one year old cat, Ouzo, whom we adopted from the Humane Society. Beautiful creature, playful as heck, cuddly, yet full of attitude.  
 
She doesn't claw the furniture to pieces, however she has taken to scratching at the rug in the bathroom, the door mat, and the bamboo rug I have in the living room. Also, she'll destroy the cover of any book you happen to leave on the floor.  
 
Any tips and tricks to help with a horizontal scratching cat? We've tried the whole scratching post thing, however she just prefers to scratch at things on the floor. Pretty soon the bamboo rug will be fit for the dumpster. Help!
