start following Funds For Pets, Earthdog Terrier Rescue of Manitoba, FAAR, Manitoba Small Dog Rescue, Manitoba Pug Rescue and Boston Terrier & Pug Rescue of Manitoba. I adopted a Chi/ter cross from a high kill shelter in CA via Earthdog. A large number of canadian rescues have been pulling dogs on death row from high kill shelters in the US, where they are filled with small breed dogs. All you pay is the adoption fee (not back yard breeder $600 fees) and they all come from foster homes, so you will know a bit about their temperament and habits (good & bad). Manitoba Underdogs don't usually get too many small breeds, but they do currently have 2 cute doxies (unless they were just adopted). Manitoba German Shepherd Rescue, Manitoba Great Pyranese Rescue and Hulls Border Collie Rescue deal with larger breeds. There are more and if you start following them on facebook, they all cross-post for each other too

In Brandon, the Humane Society and Funds for Furry Friends don't get small breeds very often, Funds has a chi cross, shitzu cross, a small terrier, a tiny spaniel, a jack russell and a Corgi cross on their web-site
