Doe anyone know where there are any pet friendly houses or apartments for rent? I have a 60 pound dog and some places have size restrictions which isn't fair for those who have dogs bigger than 25 pounds. I need to find a place in brandon ASAP, but am struggling. I don't see why places don't allow pets. People with pets are always willing to pay a pet deposit just in case there is any damage done by their animals. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

We had to rent an hour out of town after 8 months of looking for a pet friendly place to rent...I don't blame landlords, one or two bad pet owners usually cost the landlord so much grief they just go "no pets"...I found the 25lb size limit kind of frustrating, and arbitrary.

As a dog owner too, I understand how you feel. Places do come up from time to time here on ebrandon so just keep an eye out and ask around too. Good luck to you.

you are willing to agree to paying, there may be a place. I know of a place that is trying to get rented, and the owners have a dog. PM me your info.

I'm no lawyer but I'm pretty sure the Bill Manitoba Tenancy Act states that no one can deny you owning a pet .

Bill 218 was never passed. Landlords can set whatever restrictions they want about pets: only thing that is legislated as part of the Tenancy Act are additional damage deposits specific to having a pet.

I love animals but the few bad apples ruin it for everyone. We have a rental and have allowed pets in the past. But the last time it cost $1500 to repair the damage by 2 cats. Two bedroom carpets and underlay needed replacing, living room carpet needed replacing and the scratches on the doors had to be repaired. The 1/2 month damage deposit didn't even begin to cover that. Not the cats fault but owners who don't look after the pets and clean litter boxes daily. Try rent an apartment to someone when the place smells like cat pee...not gonna happen.

If you don't own a home don't buy a pet- you are responsible for this living creature not something you can just dump on ebrandon like a piece of furniture- even though people do unfortunately when they have to move and aren't able to keep it  

You're not going to find a place here. Brandon landlords hate pets bigger than a goldfish, it's just the way things are. You'll have better luck pretty much everywhere else.  
 
Then you get people telling you that if you can't afford to spend a couple hundred grand on a house, you shouldn't have any pets. And that's basically what it's like here - if you're not 'rich' enough to have a house, you're practically barred from having a pet in this backwater town.

So many of you are downers I know when I was looking I found several places that allowed for both cats and dogs of any size. And in an economy that doesn't make it easy to save for down payments easily why not try and have a pet and give a needy critter a home ?

All landlords hate animals- I love them. It's the irresponsible pet owners that ruin it for everyone unfortunately. Cat owners not making sure they are regularly vacuuming and keeping litter box clean. Irresponsible dog owners not working with the big to not bark at everything bothering other tenants, not picking up after them outside... Not all pet owners, but they can't risk it. Next tenant may have allergies and if there's carpet that's a problem. Unfortunately under their roof, it's their rules.

even the gold fish aren't safe in this town. Before we lived in the house we're in now we had a small aquarium for my daughter with a single fish in it, the management of the complex came to do yearly inspection and told us that the fish was a pet & not allowed. Tank could break or leak & cause damage, had to get rid of the fish. I wish I was kidding you.

Carry the most risks for damage or larger scale damage so I can see that being an issue

That some of you people saying landlords don't like pets come to realize some day that it's not particularly you, or your pets that the landlord doesn't like it was most likely a person they previously rented to that ruined it for you. So instead of blaming and hating on the person setting the guide lines for THEIR property you should instead be blaming and hating and starting ebrandon threads about the people who ruin it for you.
