Ok, here's the situation...  
 
I had a friend living at my place, he had a small dog. Unbeknownst to me, this dog was peeing on the carpet in his bedroom in a corner.  
 
He has since moved out, now my cat has peed on the same spot of carpet, likely to remark his territory or whatever the reason.  
 
I plan to rent a steam cleaner to do the carpet, will this remove the urine smell? Will the cat still smell it and continue to pee there? Are there any other remedies to ensure he doesn't keep doing this? Removing the carpet is not an option at this point.
