I was so shocked and saddened to hear about the furicious attack on a very small little dog in Pipestone a couple of days ago. Last year the little dog was attacked by a large dog (Rotweiller) that was loose. The costs of surgery for the little dog cost the owner over a thousand dollars as the injuries were extensive (basically skinned alive). The little dog was on her chain in her yard while the owner was just inside the door. But to hear that once again the same Rottweiller was loose once again and this time attacked and killed the same little dog. It speaks to how irresponsible this dog owner is. This time the owner of the little dog was weeding around the corner of her house to hear the commotion. She once again rushed her small dog to the vet in Virden where little dog was operated on once again and died shortly after surgery due to collapsed lungs. OMG Brandi (little dog) weighed perhaps 8 lbs and was tied on a leash and was brutally attacked by a Rottweiler allowed to run free not once but TWICE is attrocious. The animal owner needs to be held accountable on both the first and second surgeries. I am so mad at such senseless disregard for owners of dogs that feel they can disregard all the laws. This owner should be banned from EVER owning another animal as she is negligient on all levels not to mention incompetent as a pet owner. SHAME on her. I hope she is charged with letting her vicious dog run free. The sad part is her animal isn't accountable, SHE IS!!! This could be someones small child next time!

Anyone goes there, dog attacks are not specific to the Rottweiler or pit bull breed. All breeds need to be socialized and trained from the start.

It is not about the breed. But it is about why some people should not own pets. These were not neighbouring dogs. They lived across town from one another. The reference of the breed was about the size of the dog at large.

but if you are a dog owner you are responsible for that dog and with owning a breed dog that is known to be aggressive and you don't keep said animal on a leash then you should be charged , and the dog should be put down as it is now known that the animal is dangerous. I could be wrong but last time I knew all dogs are to be tied up and not let to run around free after all this is why there is animal control and it does not matter what size or breed of dog the attack never should have happened the first time or second time.

Not saying your wrong, perhaps owners who train or allow their dogs to be aggressive are more inclined to choose these types of breeds, that very well could be, hard to say, regardless, Pittbulls despite making up only 6.6% of the total US dog population contributed to 88% of human deaths, with Rottweilers coming in a far second.

Our friends in Edmonton just went through this same ordeal. He walked his dog every night on a leash and this one night about six weeks ago a rottie mix dashed from his house (apparently he bolted right through a screen door), attacked our friends' dog nearly killing her. She has had two surgeries already to repair a broken jaw and fix some puncture wounds and she has a broken tooth that still needs to be fixed. Our friend was also injured in the attack, he had bites and a torn knee ligament. They too, have spent thousands already on surgeries.  
 
What gets me is the owner of the offending dog has been "spoken to" by Edmonton bylaw, but as far as we know he has not been charged with anything nor is there any way for them to go after him for the costs. There is something VERY wrong with a system that these ignorant and incompetent owners are not punished so that this cannot happen again.  
 
Heck, my neighbor owns a god that has bitten a police officer and nearly bit a postman and for some reason she is not being forced to surrender the dog.  
 
Agreed though - it is not about a breed. It is about poor owners who have no concept of safe training and care of the bigger breeds. Even a chihuahua can be a monster, the only reason bigger breeds are faulted more in the media when they attack is because they physically have more bite force and damage capacity behind them.

We are talking about attacks. I'm sure nonfatal attacks would have a different outcome on that report. Id like to see where pit bulls and other so called "dangerous" breads would be on that list. I imagine near the bottom. The fun things about numbers in stats is you can make them say what ever you want.

Sometimes a large dog may not like any dogs or just small dogs. It depends on the dog. It could be vice versa as well.  
 
I've seen it before where a little dog is intimidated by large dogs so initiated the fight... All dogs are different so we can't really assume that this dog is vicious.  
 
It's definitely the owner's fault for letting their dog roam free on multiple occasions. Said owner should realize the risks of letting the dog roam free and take responsibility for ensuring the dog is safe and in its own territory. Sad that people are so careless sometimes and now it's resulted to this.

The Rottweiler is actually a great family dog. It makes me sad when I hear stories about an aggressive Rottie and people end up thinking they are dangerous. It's the idiots that buy the breed and make them aggressive, never train or socialize their dog. It could be any breed of dog. This story is a case of a bad dog owner, not the breed.

I own a Rotty. She is a great dog and have never had an issue with her. In fact I use her to help other people with aggressive dogs to socialize them. To say they are a aggressive breed is the media getting to you. do you know the 2 most aggressive breeds are? They are not what you think. New research came out in 2013 about this. Dash-hound and Jack russle re considered the top aggressive breeds. Its NEVER the dog and ALWAYS THE HUMAN attached to them. I also own a cat and 2 guinea pigs and 2 snakes. And have never once had an issue. My 6 year old can walk the dog at the dog park. As soon as people hear Rotty they get this twisted.

The owner of this rottweiler should be ashamed of themselves, if you know that your dog is dangerous, at least towards other dogs you WOULD THINK they would be more careful. They should be held resposible for the vet bills at the very least, its too bad they can't be charged with negligence.
