We had our male fixed in March. He was 6 months old (I'm fairly sure that is the minimum age).  
 
We took him to Grand Valley for all of his kitten vaccines/de workings etc. They offer a kitten package. We went with the bigger package which included all three check ups and the vaccines that went with each appointment. As well as the fe-Luke test/vaccine. It also gave us 10% off of his neuter. I believe on its own with no discount it is about 90$ plus taxes. I could be totally wrong there, so don't quote me on that.  
 
No temperament change at all. We asked the vet if it would calm him down a bit, as he is quite wild lol. But they had told us right at that time that it would not change anything. That was correct!  
 
He was obviously a big miffed when I picked him up. I just brought him home, opened his carrier and let him come out when he was ready. Took maybe 5 minute! He was completely fine after about two hours. (Slept all day the next day though!)

Four months was when I had my cats done. Neither one had started to spray but they both remained more aggressive than any of my female cats.  
 
I like Grand Valley on Pacific Avenue but my mother found Wheat City on First Street North to be a little cheaper.  
 
My cost was around the $100 and included vaccinations etc.

Got my male kitten done at 6 months. Used the mobile vet here in brandon. They met me to pick him up and when I was free at the end of the day they dropped him off where I chose to meet them. Only about 90$. I would recommend the mobile vet to anyone, only place I will go now.  
I didn't notice a change in behaviour in my kitten, but as he's gotten older (about a year now) he has calmed down a lot.  
He was completely fine as soon as I brought him home. Didnt seem phased by the operation at all.

I've gotten over 10 male cats in my life fixed haha. Recently we got two barn kitty's done. The cats were homeless so we took the three kittens and what we thought was mom... Turned out to be dad or a goofy uncle but he adored them haha so the male kitten was fixed at 6mths which is the norm and the other was over a year old. They didn't change at all each stayed a week in the house while healing. We had no issues they were very good and healed up nice. We went to Grand Valley for all the cats to get fixed males are definitely cheaper but the procedure on males is less invasive I believe for just getting fixed it was $90 that's not including if you have an exam and shots.

I can't comment on prices, as I vet outside of Brandon. I had one of my males done at 1 year, the other at 5 years (that's how old they were when I took them in). One major (in a good way) effect was that the 5 year old's pee smelled MUCH less strong (prior to the neuter, the whole house smelled, even though he always used the litter box). Their personalities/ behaviours didn't change at all after the neuters, their recovery times were short, and we didn't have any effects that weren't considered 'normal'. The younger one has developed a bit of a 'hanging tummy' that wobbles when he runs. The older one has some behaviour issues, but those started many years after his neuter and are unrelated to it.
