Hi All,  
 
Im having problems with my dog the last few days being agressive towards my girlfriend. The last 3 days have been bad. She was bitten in the left hip yesterday with a moderate puncture wound.  
 
I did have problems with this before as we figured she was starving. After giving her more food shes became better.  
 
Ive told the gf. The dog sleeps on the couch which is her place. She waits to be fed and we need to figure out a way ro discipline her when she misbehaves. We have been booting her outside but i dont think its much of a punishment.  
 
I told the gf the dog doesmt understand hugging which normally is the trigger. The dog will give a fast snarl and then snap.  
 
I do not want to give up the dog as ive had her for almost 5 years from puppy phase. We have been together almost a year and a half. The dog is usually fine if im away from home. But when all 3 of us are together she acts up.

Please contact a Certified dog trainer. This is a serious issue, and advice from non-professionals could make it worse. Two Brown Dogs has the only Certified dog trainers in the area, as far as I know:

hugging in a lot of dogs is not a good idea they feel threatened and its like cornering them they can feel as if they have no way to excape has your gf been around the dog long? I would definalty check into talking with a behaviourist as one cant really diagnose a problem without proper training could lead to more problems sometimes even calling the local humaine society will get you some tips or tricks to try hopefully you can get the help you need would hate to see it become more of a problem

Contact an experienced dog trainer! Other suggestions I have is to not put your dog outside as punishment. The dog needs to be corrected immediately after snarling/biting. Is your gf nervous around the dog? Does your gf allow the dog to be the dominant one between the two of them? Perhaps your gf needs to do some exercises with the dog that reinforces she is the alpha. Such as proper walks leash. Gf must enter a doorway before the dog. If dog is laying on floor, make dog get up and move out of the way. Do not walk around dog etc. The dog should never be hugged. Make your dog work for affection. Spoiled dogs are more likely to have behavioural issues. Does who are bored tend to also have behavioural issues. Is your dog well exercised? Good luck to you!

I think your gf and dog need some alone time.... Have your gf feed your dog and walk the dog and even spend sometime without you around... Sounds funny but maybe your dog hasn't bonded with her

The dog is perfectly fine when they are alone together. Its just when myself or the 3 of us are around. We have some things we need to change in regards to behaviour and things we do as well. I will be calling someone to hopefully get things figured out. will be

Sounds like the dog is protective of you. You must be the master. Correct the behavior before it happens, the signs will be there. If this sounds confusing, contact a professional who can help a lot more thoroughly than comments ever will.

Is she pregnant? Lol sometimes animals (even kids) start acting completely different if there is someone who gets pregnant or new baby in the house. Jealousy. I'm not a certified pet trainer, but I have some experience with kids and animals, and that's the first thing that popped into my head lol please don't take offence as non was intended lol

Sounds like you dog is jealous of the attention you give your girl friend. you have your girl friend and family and all your friends. Your dog only has you. they get protective of their pack. You have to make your girl friend a part of the pack. Talk to and expert on how to do that.

Lynn white helped me train my dog, she is a certified trainer and she also runs a doggy daycare on 26th. She is amazing and is a certified breader of doberman pincher dogs as well. I would recommend her to anyone. My dog is amazing with my children. And they are very young

Highly recommend her too. We had an aggressive pup and she did a world of wonder in training US to train the dog. Now our dog is a big obedient love bug.

accepts you as the pack leader, but your GF came on the scene after the dog so the dog is trying to maintain status in the pack by being aggressive when you are hugging or being close to your GF, the dog is basically telling her to back off. dog thinks he is 2nd in the heirarchy.  
 
dogs fine with the GF alone as there is no competition for you.  
 
Gf needs to become the pack leader as well.  
 
That's the end of my doggy knowledge. Fixing it depends on the dog, the GF and you.
