So long story short I'm a stay at home parent and my spouse left me. Before any judgement, I've never been on social assistance in my life but I am looking into it as a way to help until I get a job. My only concern is keeping a roof over my child's head, food in his stomach and clothes on his back, simple as that.  
Just a few questions about how it works. Do I need proof of separation somehow?  
I have debt and a car loan co-signed with my ex, is this going to affect my eligibility?  
Do they help with rent in any way? Or is that i:ncluded in the amounts on the website that single parents will get?

Decide if you meet criteria. It would be best to set up orientation as you cannot do anything until that is out of the way. They will then assign you a worker and the worker and yourself with go through your stuff with you to determine if you qualify and such. They don't give much. But they do give some money for rent and basic needs.

The food bank can help for basic need to keep food on the table I know for a single person but they do for sure make sure that children are fed, and if they are in need diapers, they do have some that as well (if needed) as well as tooth paste etc....
