I am wondering how many people keep their engagement rings from a previous marriage. I am thinking about selling mine and I am wondering the best way to do it and were to go in Brandon if I decide to do it. I am also thinking about taking the diamond and putting it in a necklace or ring for my daughter. But, being the marriage was not great I do not want to jinx her.lol!! I am superstitious.lol!

I would have loved to have my mothers ring( or diamond made into necklace) even though she and my dad broke up years ago. She got rid of it because of bad feeling between the two of them, which is so sad as I have no ill feeling toward either of them. It would have been really special to me. I have a best friend, who Is more of a mother figure, and she too got rid of hers years ago, and now both her daughters (older than myself) are asking for them. Sadly though she has nothing to give. In my opinion, I would wait to sell them. Put them somewhere safe and when your daughter(s) get older let them choose.

You need to do what you're comfortable doing. Both arguments (keeping vs. selling) have merit.  
 
And no, he doesn't get half the money. The ring is a gift, and that's fairly consistently been upheld in court as far as I know. Once something is given as a gift, you no longer have control or interest in it, otherwise it ceases to be a gift.

Mine wasn’t engagement but I have some pricey jewellery from an ex. So far I’ve kept it all (it’s been about 15 years). Every few years I come across them and it reminds me of all the good and bad I learned and had with that relationship. No I’m not holding on, I don’t wear the jewellery. I just think sometimes it’s important to reflect on the past and how it got you where you are today.
