I want to pay off my debt but I don't know how to get the information of who and what I owe to companies. My question is: How do I find out this information?

What do you mean? Like credit cards and loans?

I am assuming you are in a relationship were your partner is in control of the finances and you are unsure of the status of bills...if this is the case, talk to your partner and ask him to see the bills. If he has an issue with it, I'd be very concerned especially if you live together!! If this is not the situation, do what the above poster has stated!!

Buy a credit report from each of transunion and equifax. Now, not everything is guaranteed to be on there, but most things should be, and you can also review to see if there are any errors on your credit report. Good luck!

If you have moved numerous times and in essence escaped your debts and that is why you do not know the amount owed, then the credit report as suggested above is the best way to go. Although i believe they ask for a credit card to pay for the report. Also they will now be able to find you so be prepared for debt collector phone calls.

The bank can. Probably by appointment though.

I messed up at a loan place once and happen to see my credit report when I applied for credit. I then seen that they had 3 different amounts from 3 different collection agencies which looked like I owed 3 loans! I needed a letter from the company/agency saying it has been paid in full and also dispute those other claims. So when you do find out which collection agency you owe or if you pay directly to the bank/company remember to get a letter saying the amount for that bill has been paid and get it taken off your credit report.

You can access your credit report for free: you pay for your credit score. Phone transunion and equifax, just keep listening for the prompts. It's always good to know where you stand.
