I'm going for surgery at the end of the month and will be off work for 8 weeks. Can I collect EI?

Yes you can collect e. I. If you have worked long enough. You fill out the form for medical leave.

Extended health benefits at work?

Do you have extended health care benefits at work? If so, I would think that would come into play before you would be eligible to collect EI if your plan covers medical leave. If unsure, check with your employer/HR personnel to confirm. Whenever I have been off work for medical leave for an extended period, I have been paid by my health care plan through my employer.

you can apply online if you have roe

your employer may also submit it online, need a doctor note but only for your own records, on 4th week recieved one week pay (ei pay)

Does your company have short term disability ? Most employers only have long term disability.

I would check to see if your employer has any of these in place. Short term would be the appropriate one as I'm sure you plan on going back to your job after you are healthy and cleared by your doc to resume work.
