honestly credit checks, especially used in this situation, are a bit more then income vs credit
credit is your word that if they give you something now, in this case a place to live in and trust with their valuable property, that you will do as you say, pay on time, abide by the rules and not cost thousands in damages, or at least pay for the damages that do happen, if your credit is bad it means your word has been broken before, so basically yes it should hurt your chances, why would they trust you when your credit score says you are untrustworthy?
the older the negative reports are or the more good reports you have from previous rentals would factor in to the decision tho so good luck
