Letter. What doesn't this mean? I guess I could call my bank. However thought I'd pick someone's brain here. Does it mean they have already done a credit check and sent letter based on that or will they do a credit check once you "accept the offer"? Don't know how this works and certainly don't appreciate credit checks done without my authorization. And yes it's from my own bank. Just curious? I have a store credit card but don't use it. Don't know much about this pre-approved credit card thing.

I doubt anyone unauthorized being able to check your credit rating unless you personally initiate the process and sign on the dotted line to apply. There are privacy laws which need your go ahead.  
 
If it came from your bank, it doesn't mean diddly squat.

I got one of those once and decided to apply for the card as they had good incentives....well even thou I was "pre approved" they didn't approve me for the card, so it was just a waste of my time. I have good credit and bills are always paid on time no idea why they didn't approve it.

You were not approved because you would not be incurring late fees and interest for them. Your credit rating is TOO good for their business plan.

I'll throw it out. I've learned the hard way that too much credit is a bad thing. I've got all the credit I think I need. Bloody banks and stuff are just trying to "trap" you in any way they can.

I remove any identifing marks and send those applications back to the company. If I get 2, I think that visa would like to see what master card is offering so swap envelopes. I sometimes stuff the local junk mail into the return envelopes. Those companys pay for any returned envelopes, so it increases the cost of sending out junk mail

sender has to request return to sender on it

it only gets returned when sender request it back

I stuff whatever is lying around in the envelope, and mail it when I have outgoing mail.  
 
Not that the few cents is going to hurt them, but I feel it's s form of protest.  
 
On the CC note, OP...you're not preapproved for squat, it's just a suck-in.
