Can anyone recommend a good planner? I'm looking at the big picture, finances, investing, debt. So I hope to find a person who can come up with a complete game plan on how to go forward.

An advisor should always be willing to meet with you at no charge for a consultation appointment-an run from any that ask for money up front.

Funny you should say that. There are great advisors who have moved to a fee based system and the regulating body for advisors is also moving towards a fee based system. Advisors obviously need ti be paid. The question is how do they get paid. Are the captive or employees of a company and then recommending products offered by one company or offering products from multiple companies. Products such as TFSA,RRSP's, etc. Whom do they represent... you or their employer...who pays their wages. You can get good independant and good employees.... what are their biases. Food for thought..

a few years ago I sat in on these classes. I was able to get myself out of debt and start my investing future. With advice from my accountant and my bank I am at peace with my money. I control it. I would be willing to share the knowledge. You can check it out for yourself too online. IT WORKS! American based so that is where loads of questions to your bank and your tax person are essential. all that advice is free.

I am almost debt free. savings in the bank, retirement money savings, kids are in university without student loans.

Lots of great folks in the finance industry locally and many different approaches out there depending on one's needs, knowledge and time....
Just so the whole picture is represented, is there anyone fee-based (similar to how a lawyer or accountant bills) that guides one on more of the kind of path that you might see W. Buffett recommend for most investors (index fund/ETFs)...

There's obviously online accounts like Direct Investing for someone with the knowledge and comfort level, but seems to be a need for professional advice that bridges the gap?
