Hi all. I am moving to Windsor ON and would like to take my household things with me. I checked CP rail, CN rail, freight service, Maritime ON but all say that they do not do personal belongings and only business to business. does someone know how I can move stuff like dismantled beds, tables, 6 baggage of clothes and toys? Please guide me.

As I recall, they use a system of a buck a pound. They put several deliveries on one truck.

Have you tried U-Haul?

Moving is quite expensive. A few years ago I moved from ab to on and I ended up selling my furniture, shipping personal items on grey hound and got new furniture. It was cheaper than moving it.

There are dozens of small moving companies who might be cheaper, but you should do some research on those, some of them are kinda shady.

You keep your insurance going on your belongings. IE - home, apt or any type of regular insurance and go for replacement value 40K or more. Moving insurance is a joke from the moving companies and will not cover all your losses. Also keep records of your belongings and photos help.

You're right, the insurance from the moving company is nothing. In 1983 when we moved from SK to Brandon, the A.V.L. truck burnt to the ground. (see the photo) Total claim was around $72,000 and the cheque from the moving company didn't even cover the appliances. We were lucky that our home insurance was still in effect. I also wonder where a moving truck would get weighed in Brandon.

Put 2 rooms of stuff in and shipped from Edmonton AB to Toronto ON for almost $2000 with atlas  
For me it was chapeaer to do this for 2 rooms and use uhaul for the rest myself (175$ total for uhaul)  
100$ to take friends out for supper as thanks.  
 
Rates change of course. Call each company and discuss how many rooms you want to ship

On where a scale is but a local trucking company may know. Or put in the moving contract you want a scale ticket from cat scale in Headingley and get the tare weight of the truck. It's on the door of the truck.

Ps. It you have some sort of a tracking device, it could be helpfull on knowing the location of your belongings.

depending on the sentimental value have you considered selling everything and buying new/used in your new location? moving is expensive!

There is a scale with signage stating it is open to public use on 17th St East, just North of Richmond, on the West side of the road. I can’t recall whose lot it is on.

There’s a public scale at Paul’s hauling and I’ve seen moving trucks use the city scale at the landfill before.

I know some people who haul horses across Canada and will take furniture (their trailer is actually a remodelled moving van)

There’s a CAT scale located on the east side of Paul’s Hauling on 17th St East.
