Does anybody know if any schools in Brandon will be closed tomorrow due to the snow storm?

No, no schools will be closed in Brandon because of the storm.

BSD city schools never close. Wishful thinking though

Last year, BU closed and BSD stayed open. I highly doubt BSD will close as much one can question their decision.

BSD doesn't close their schools because there are kids that are sent regardless of weather. And if they go and doors are locked and parents working they are at great risk. So it is a safety issue. Parents don't have to send kids if they don't want to.

Because those are rural schools with the majority of the kids coming on the bus. Little harder to get around then in the City of Brandon.

Predominantly the schools that are closing have a vast majority of bus students, meaning there are very few students available to attend. A lot of the teachers live outside of the community as well, making it dangerous for them to try to get there. Brandon, kids can walk to their school. It's not cold, just super icy!!

I worry about kids walking to their bus stops and waiting on mornings like these!

BU just sent out an email that they are open today, though advising using discretion in lieu of road closures...

When I see comments like this I laugh. Kids dressed for the weather have no issues. There is about 3 pick up points by my place and 90 percent are rolling around in the snow having fun.  
Same thing when parents keep their kids at home. How many kids end up outside building snowmen and forts. But oh my god it is too extreme to send them to school.

Fishin Guy, you are so right! I agree that when dress properly for the weather a child is fine to walk, my own son walks to school almost every day! We even have a "walking bus" for our neighbourhood kids. 2 parents and a teacher from the school walk a route threw the neighbourhood and pick up smaller children to walk in a big group! Today I drove a few kids just because the sidewalks are covered and our power went out and we were running late! LOL! The reason I posted this is cause my friends thought we were Turtle Mountian district and I said no, we are BSD and we never close....I asked the question to make sure inward correct....thanks to all those who answered my question!

As far as rural school closures go, it’s not about the temps, but the road conditions for the majority bus students. Walking a few blocks is no big deal, but a few (dozen) miles is a different story.

From what we understand, fort la bosse, rolling river and parkwest are all closed for Tuesday. Haven't heard about southwest horizon though it seems like it probably will If some neighbouring divisions have closed already?

Brandon School Division buses will not be operating outside the City of Brandon for Tuesday March 6th all day.  
 
Alexander, O’Kelly and Spring Valley Schools are closed.  
 
All other schools are open.  
 
Buses will be running within the city of Brandon and attendance at schools is at parental discretion where travel is required.  
 
Please call your school if you are not going to be attending.
