Just because the kids are not in school doesn't mean school zone speeds don't apply. Remember it is still 30km/hr in posted school zones this week.

Thankfully we don't have those parasitic mobile camera vehicles like Winnipeg does.

It definatley is a cash grab just like literally everything else.  
 
I miss the good old days where kids were smart enough to look both ways before crossing a street and not getting hit.  
 
Common sense no longer prevails.

This way there is no "is there school isn't there school" today. Sept 1 to June 30 Mon to Fri school zone in effect. If its between those date you need to slow down.  
 
Spring break and PD Days and holidays all fall on different dates that would be way to confusing to keep track of.  
 
I don't drive around the city a ton, but the school zones are pretty easy to avoid if you are so worried about losing 2 seconds of you day on spring break due to slowing down for a block.

While i can agree with the concept of common sense in kids I live right across from a school and have seen "Adult Drivers" actually spinning their tires and racing throughout the school zone. Drivers need to use their brain as well. It only take a second to take a life.

I think speed zones in school zones and even playground areas are a good idea, In Sherwood Park Playground areas are in effect from 8:30 AM until 1 hour after sunset all year long I believe.

In school zones or where ever you drive you see kids playing and they get distracted very easily. Common sense doesn’t apply to most kids as they are too in the moment and not thinking about their actions. It will take just one split second and a child is seriously injured or worse dead. Do you want to be the driver who hits them?  
I don’t get people who disagree with the lower driving speeds on school zones or who call them cash grabs. Really do you want to wait for one or more children to die before we take action. I would rather a more proactive stance like what the city has done to protect our children.  
 
Remember driving is a privilege not a right. People forget that they need to be responsible behind the wheel at all times. If you aren’t then we need rules to make people accountable.

Ok folks who think that because the kids are out of school for the week means it is ok to speed through the zones, you are wrong.  
 
And to lip on the cops for ticketing those who "may" have forgotten that the rules say Sep - June 0800 - 1700hrs, take it up with the judge. These rules keep our kids safe.  
 
Just because it is March Break doesn't mean that the kids aren't using the playgrounds or walking in or around the schools.  
 
Give up the attitude and observe the rules. It could be your kid that gets hurt if someone 'forgets' again.

I crossed 18th. street 4 times a day. How come 18th. st. and Victoria avenue aren't considered school zones? It's like no student crosses these streets?  
 
Sorry it is a cash grab. Spring break and stat holidays no kids in school so why go hard on enforcing and handing out tixs?

No, I’m not suggesting speeding through but I’d prefer to go 50 km/hr. Yep, cash grab all the way!

It’s only a cash grab if you are breaking the rules.  
This is a first world problem. Regardless of whether school is in or out during the months of September to June we are to slow down to 30km/hr in school zones.

As a previous poster said, the grounds are still used by children to play. Duly noted and true! That would be the case for year round enforcement of all properties. Although there is intermittent enforcement throughout the year, the heavy concentrations look to be on early sept, and when people , mostly parents are doing wrong because the are aware there is no school. If it is truly about the children playing on the grounds then make it a safe haven and instill it year round. It would avoid a lot of confusion and entrapment.

pay more attention when driving. Pedestrians of all ages need to do the same. No one wants to hit or be hit by a vehicle. Look what happened yesterday downtown. A woman in her 70s got hit crossing a street.  
I was taught when I was a child how to cross a busy street, are things so different now? What do parents teach their children these days?

If it were really about safety, cities would be building fences and controlled crosswalks, not putting up signs and writing tickets.

You can’t make the world into a jail cell by blocking every in like that. That’s impossible.

if you think drivers are acting stupid driving fast how about the stupidity of the students crossing their school zone street without looking if it is safe to cross or know to stop texting while crossing the street. Especially high school students capable of doing their own homeworks, capable to apply and go for work, able to drive, drugs, sex but not capable to be responsible to cross streets. Go to school to learn but can't learn to cross streets safely.  
Also kids are not only in school zones perhaps should be speed limit of 30 all over because any kids (even young ages) can be playing in any neighborhoods.  
What is a major problem 30-40 years students getting hit by drivers? Phones!! If students are not responsible to know not texting while crossing streets then students should not have phones.  
Texting and driving is bad so is texting and walking....goes both ways this stupidity you call it.

But the person driving 4000lbs of metal rubber and flammable liquid has just a wee bit more responsibility don’t ya think??? Especially in school zones???  
Stupidity or as I like to call it stoopidity is every where. We are all responsible for our own actions. But it seems that in our society today some people have a rather inflated sense of entitlement that allows them to do whatever they want with no thought as to the consequence or impact on the next person. As a result we need the different levels of government to watch over us and spend millions of dollars of tax payers money to protect us from ourselves. While I for one would like to see my tax dollars go toward services that make all our lives better...stoopid people continue to do stoopid things. And they always will.

your link is not for anywhere in brandon or even MB(AB actually) so altho slowing down for children, school zones and parks when you see children (honestly anytime you see a potential risk) MB HTA is not Canada wide so make sure you understand the laws in the place you are driving in  
 
to clarify MB HTA was adjusted in order for municipalities to have the ability to set school zones as they see fit, within certain perimeters, so Brandons school zones may not be the same as winnipegs or any other community, a mistake imo but it is how it is set at this time. Read the signs and follow what each sign says thats the long and short of it
