What's your opinion regarding recyclables in Brandon?  
Are you content throwing Recyclables in your dumpster?  
Or do you think we should get a refund, as we pay enviro levy at the stores?  
Whatever happened to our recycling progran?

That’s one of the things I miss from living in Saskatchewan is sarcan. Take you plastic bottles, juice boxes, alcohol bottles milk jugs, or other drinking containers and get from $0.05 to $0.40 per bottle depending on the size. Was great after summer camping/cabin season!

CoB have a new app on their website to find out what's recyclable, compost or waste. For example Tim's cups and lids aren't recycled but the cups are compostable and the lids waste. They also have lots of good info and do's and don'ts as well on the FAQ page http://wastewizard.brandon.ca

There is a lot of misinformation about what to and how to recycle as well.  
 
Most people just throw their recycling products in their bin, without knowing that soiled products cannot be recycled. For example, if you have a mayo bottle. You need to make sure that it doesn't have any reminence of mayo in the bottle prior to shooting it in the recycling. Or another one is shooting an unopened can of corn in the recycling.

My wording in the opening comment in this discussion: should have included drink cans/ bottles / water bottles. We pay the enviro levy on such, but don't get a refund in Manitoba. Was just wondering where we could return these if we wished, for refund. After doing some research, it seems Manitoba does not do this. Thanks for your comments.

While it would be nice to have a small payback for what I recycle, I don't mind just dumping it in the blue bin. Given recent fluctuations in the market, however, I am curious about 2 things in regards to our cities recycling program:  
 
1.) What is our rate of contamination (since single-stream collection systems tend to have the highest rate)  
 
2.) Has the city had to dump good stock just due to not finding a suitable buyer in the market?

Just one more thing that Manitoba sucks at. People from other provinces can't believe we don't get a refund for recyclables that we pay an enviro fee for. Why would they reimburse us when no one has made them do it? The recycling program here is a joke. It's not that city/province can't do it, it's that they won't.

Has anyone looked into our recycling fees? Sure we get 10 cents a beer can. There is only a 2 cent fee on pop cans. That 2 cents isn't returned as it goes towards operation fees at recycle plants and programs around the province. Honestly I am glad I don't have to save up all my pop cans and milk jugs to sit in long lines having every Tom, Dick, and Harry lined up wanting deposits back. I am from Alberta and that was a Saturday outing.

Fishin Guy......I remember picking bottles along the highway on a Saturday afternoon, back in the day in my hometown. Seemed there was a lot of drinking and driving back then. A lot of OV bottles. lol

I don't care we don't get a refund because it means we don't get charged for it in the store.

In that case, there should be a levy on fast food packaging. Namely coffee cups.
