Pretty much no matter where you go , you can find empty coffee cups ect on store shelves. Ive even seen a child grab a cup and get coffee spilt on them.  
 
I would just like to now why do people leave their garbage behind for other people to clean up ? Is it that they are lazy, wasn't taught manners by their mommy or they are just inconsiderate ?  
 
Find a garbage, carry it or just dont bring it in the store.

For saying this, as someone who has worked retail for 5+ years this drives me crazy. Unfortunately theres some people out there who will claim "its someones job any way" and it really isnt. Imagine i came and dropped my Mcdonalds wrapper on your desk, welder, printer or tool box.

It could be forgetful store staff. Many have a coffee or a water when doing this and that during off hours or even during store hours if they are not part of the regular floor crew. Many stores have outside vendors come in and do resets or to fill or maintain. Forgetful. Not on purpose.  
Customers do it on purpose yes. In many cases there simply is no garbage can available. Make them more visible or available. That would help cut down the habit of leaving cups and wrappers on the shelf.

Can't really see retailers putting garbage cans down the isles of stores.  
I work in retail and I agree, the garbage left by customers is just pure laziness and rude!  
Another popular item left behind is their grocery lists. I don't need your list! Take it with you, please.

I did the retail and I know your point. Years back they had ones in chain stores. Smaller versions of what you get at food courts. Now it is security issues and valuable retail space. Laziness or not if someone carries in a coffee dollars to donuts they will find a spot to put the empty cup. Myself I would ask staff or the cashier if they had a spot to chuck it.

I love checking eBrandon just to see what random thing infuriates brandonites today. I mean I'm not better, not judging...I logged in and here I am typing my piece on the topic...I'd really be interested to know if there is a psychological or sociological "reason/thing" that compels us to do this...Like empty coffee cups on a store shelf that you just couldn't walk by and carry on with your life. People need to know about this!!

If Wally World actually gets one thing right, it’s the garbage cans! Yeah, you have to search for them, but they are there. Other stores can do the same if Walmart’s willing to give up said “valuable retail space”.

I always find it odd that people have anything to throw out to start with. When I was young my mom never allowed us to bring anything in a store with us. We were not allowed to open anything while shopping to eat, toys/drinks/food stayed in the car. I do the same now. Only thing I bring in is my purse. I find this so odd that people feel the need to drink a coffee/eat etc while shopping.

Why are these personal rant type threads even allowed on the site? Nothing meaningful ever comes from them...

Well, I figure the ranting types have potential to bring attention to something like this garbage-leaving issue. Someone might read, realize they are one of those people, and potentially change their ways. Or simply the word of mouth.

I love how people on ebrandon overwhelmingly have issue with this but somehow leaving your cart all over the parking lot is accepted and, even justified with "it gives people a job" somehow thinking that being lazy and making it hard for everyone to park is ok because they "paid for their groceries" lol. I can assure you this is not a unique issue. take a look at the movie theater after everyone goes. When did it become acceptable to just throw your garbage under your seat for someone to clean up? because "movies are expensive" It would be different if they did not have garbage cans on the way out. Everyone has a justification for doing things that will bother others. I try to not let the little things in life get to me.  
 
Regarding coffee cups etc. I must admit that I have done that a few times. I have brought in a coffee or taken my coffee from McDonalds into Walmart and set it down on a shelf in order to place something in my cart, then remember it 5 mins later but cant recall where it is. I will try to not so it again if everyone else will put their carts away and take garbage with them when they leave the theatre

Yet the same people who leave garbage in the store would be fuming if they came out and found that someone had left garbage on the hood of their vehicle.

I will admit I on occasion will leave a cart and I will say on occasion because I do indeed put them back most of the time. If I don’t it’s because I have small kids in the car and had to park a long distance from the cart return or I am running late. These things are on occasion but I do in fact take it back most of the time.  
 
I am also one of those people who will put their garbage in the trash at the theatre. Hubby is bad for leaving things but I always pick it up. Same with our tray at a fast food restaurant, we dump and put it away.  
 
The thing is this is how I was taught and hopefully by me doing those things my child too learns these habits because they do as they are taught.  
 
So yes there are many of us that do in fact clean up after ourselves majority of the time.

My first job at a retail store it was in fact my job to rid the shelves of garbage/empty cartons etc. Just something else to pass time.  
 
While it didn't bother me at all at the same time it would be nice if people weren't such disrespectful humans in general. The ones leaving garbage in stores are very likely the same ones who have no problem throwing their fast food garbage out the window as they drive down highway.

seems like people have lost all respect for anything, unless it involves their own stuff.  
 
Kind of funny, that I volunteer at MCC Thrift Shop and now when I go shopping and see clothes on the floor, I stop and hang them properly.

Living in BC for a while now I was shocked to come back to Brandon recently and see all the garbage everywhere. Parking lots, road ways, store shelves, everywhere.  
 
Really Manitoba, pick up after yourselves. You don't see that until you hit the mb border. Even Saskatchewan is spotless comparitively. Really sad.  
 
I recently read that somewhere in Japan doesn't have public garbages due to some threat of bombs, and people just know to take their trash home with them.

It was a problem before, always cups around. But it is worse now, why would they take away all of the outside garbage cans?  
 
I tried to give my cup to the girl at drive thru one day and of course, they can't take it and put it in the garbage because of contamination, which makes sense, just didn't think of it.  
 
At least now I know where the garbages are at Sobey's, Superstore, Wal Mart.....

of entitlement, maybe 2 or 3 generations. I dont think you see many 50 year olds doing it, but 40's and under, no consideration.

another one that bugs me is taking meat or other spoilables out of the coolers and then deciding to not take it and can't be bothered to put it back in the cooler. OOOHHH it's too far to walk back. poor baby....  
 
also tossing your cigarette butt out your car window, or dumping your ash tray while at a red light.I did that when I was 17 something and still smoking, but have we not come any further than that as a society  
 
i'll lay odds it is all the same people. just dont care

Not a generational thing, ive seen people of all ages do it. The elderly more than others actually.

Sometimes, with the comment below yours, about older people, well, I try not to feel to furious about it, if it''''s a butt, or a wrapper on the ground. But they''''re wrong with physical garbage on store shelves/private property. No way do 55+ folks do that (for the most part of course). And lawns and drive-ways, NOT A CHANCE. Raised to work hard and earn your things and respect people''''s things, not dump your trash on it, or mentally be-little others figurring it''''s their job

Funny, about 95% of the time it's always the 40+ crowd I see leaving messes behind because they can't be bothered to clean up after themselves because it's "beneath them" and "someone else will do it for me".

That don’t bother me what bother me is watching people in the fruit isle and the bulk isle grab handfuls of grapes,cherries and other stuff and start stuffing it in there mouth or watch kids do the same then throw it back in the container

I have ducked behind a closed till to toss my garbage if I have some or asked a cashier at an open till if they mind if I toss my cup in the garbage there. I cannot think of when I have ever seen garbages in walmart, sobeys or safeway (other than the bathrooms)?!?!?  
 
As far as the carts, the only time I don't return my cart is at Walmart when I'm parked at the far north side and there is no cart return and in order to get to a cart return you have to go off-roading across a rocky median to get to one! When my kids were little I always parked as close to a cart return as possible even though it was further from the doors so that I could easily grab a cart to get them in the store and return it without leaving them in the vehicle too long.
