actual person wanting to "talk to you about your computer security". What computer? The computer you go to internet on. You will have to be more specific. The computer security... Ok, give me your name and phone number so I can let the police know. Now a different person starts to speak, and gives me 1204727698908 and then the line goes dead. Don't give these kinds of people any personal information!

why are you calling me, I do not have a computer. They hang up and never call back.

It is like the scammers who reply to ads who want to send a handler & pay by PayPal.  
 
Once I said "cash in hand." The other party insisted that PayPal was just like cash (oh boy, that is certainly not what "cash in hand" is), and pressured me by pushing their form of "payment". Using my term was an opening, so they thought, but Paypal is vastly different than appearing in-person and putting down the cash in hand. Paypal is certainly risky and you never see the person.  
 
We now say that we don't have PayPal. That is cut & dry. No opening. That is all that needs to be said. They don't call back.

they never call back

even bother answering these calls with an area code that looks like it comes from the USA or another country....I never answer those long distance calls I don’t recognize bc I know they are going to be scammers....especially when they don’t leave a message....there is always something on ebrandon about these conversations.

when I answer them and tell them I don't own a computer - they have never ever called back.

Although I like the approach, I’m just curious to know how to get around the system if I were to identify myself as a police agency/ officer when I’m not. Just saying in case one were to get called on it and ask to talk to my Sergeant.

are people who play with these scammers and post the videos on YouTube. There's videos of actual Police, Computer Techs/IT, Lawyers, Tax Professionals that contact the various scams and play along for a while. Funny when the CRA/IRS scammer tells the police that in 45 min police will be showing up to arrest them. If your educated about the scam, your can really frustrate the scammer. Most just follow a s:cript and have no education about what they are talking about.

Brenda.....I too have told them that a few years back & guess what....they still call back....do you know how many different phone numbers & people they use....they just busted a huge group in India awhile back...can’t remember when but it was in the papers...so as old as these computer scams are they will still keep calling.

these scammers also use local phone numbers to call you, numbers which have been discontinued. So sick of them calling for my Visa/Mastercard and no matter how many times you tell them no they still call back!

You can spoof numbers. Some of the anti-scammer guys do this too when contacting the scammers.
