A 15 year old construction worker has died in Stony Mountain, Manitoba after he was buried in hot asphalt.
The area's Fire Chief Wallace Drysdale tells CJOB they received a call just before 11 Friday morning about an accident at a construction site. Drysdale says when he arrived he saw a worker buried in hot asphalt with only hair visible.
The Chief says it took crews and bystanders 14 minutes to uncover the boy. Some of them may have suffered burns to their hands according to Drysdale who stresses the heat transferred through their boots.
He believes the load of asphalt may have been prematurely dumped from a truck on the unsuspecting boy.
RCMP and Workplace Health and Safety are investigating the incident.
A provincial spokesperson confirms, under the law, anyone under 16 years of age is not permitted to work on a construction site.
