The first thing I'd like to point out is that the "victim" doesn't "press charges"; either attending police lay charges based on their observations at the event or the "victim" can say "I want to make a formal complaint"- then the Crown decides whether or not to proceed with charges.
As for visiting after sentencing to custody, some couples actually resolve their issues & unless part of sentencing included a No Contact clause, there would be nothing to prevent visitation.
