I was not sure what topic to put this under. I applied for Manitoba Housing and I received a letter saying that I am eligible. I was trying to find out the next steps on the website but it does not give an info. I see in the letter that they will call to verify my info. But, then what happens?? Will they call when they have something available?? Can I ask for a certain area of town?? Can anyone help me out?

They will call and verify your information and set up an appointment to have an interview done (if that hasn’t been done already.) It’s been a long time since I was in MB Housing but I am pretty sure there was a question on the application about areas/ towns you wanted to apply for or it’s asked in the interview.  
 
You then sit on a waiting list, they find you placement based on how emergent your situation is. I was living in an over crowded house that didn’t have a proper fire exit in one of the bedrooms. I think from the time I applied until I got a letter in the mail telling me of an available unit, it was a 4 month wait, then I had to contact them to set up a viewing appointment to see the place. Once I told them I wanted it, it was a matter of waiting a couple weeks for my possession date and doing the initial walk through.

Call them and ask what happens next or wait for them to call you ask at the time. Things have changed since I was trying to get in 10 years ago. You used to be able to say no to up to 3 places you checked out. I believe now you have to take what you can get. After they verify your information call them often to inquire about when you'll be getting a place. I had been waiting for a place for almost a year (I was pregnant for 8 months of it, I applied as soon as I found out) when as friend told me to call everyday to ask. Within two weeks they had a place for me. Squeaky wheel gets the grease with them in my experience. Good luck!

Almost anybody who applies can be eligible. It really means nothing. You’ll be put on a waiting list with hundreds and hundreds of other people are waiting. I don’t mean to sound discouraging, but keep your expectations low. I was in MB Housing once and waited a year and this was with multiple doctors notes stating the place I was currently was unsafe for our health.
