Just curious as to how many places are closed this Monday Nov. 12th??
It is not a stat holiday but I have been hearing that a number of places are closed. Anyone chime in if they are working? Who's open, who is not?

It's likely only small businesses that may be closed on the Monday. Big box stores and restaurants will be open. I saw on Facebook that Brandon Computers will be closed on the Monday.

I know my workplace is open on Monday because Remembrance Day isn't a stat holiday as their reasoning. I imagine its business as usual for everybody else unless otherwise stated.

Government offices are closed Monday. Federal too I think? A few private businesses are closed; most are likely open.

It is a federal stat but provinces don’t have to treat it as a paid stat. It is optional and up to the employer on how to treat it

IMHO - its turned into holiday. Lots of folks getting the day off in lieu when actually it is NOT a general holiday. Its like we have forgotten what the day is about - remembering those who gave their lives - its not a celebration. I for one will be working on Nov 12th but remembering on Nov 11th - its 100 years since the end of WW1

I wonder if having the 12th as a stat is the compromise for people not wanting to wait until 1:00 to get their shopping done.

It’s so ridiculous. The reason stores are closed til 1pm is for employees to attend Remembrance Day services. There are no services on Nov 12. No reason to be closed.

Appreciate if a separate thread could be started debating why stores are open, why they’re closed and the like (could be a very interesting discussion in its own right). Would like OP to get best chance to get answers in this thread to their question of what will be open. Thx
